Genetically engineered meat

A thought I had on the train last night:
You’re probably aware that genetic engineers are working on growing organs separate from the host organism. So, when genetic engineering has progressed to the point where we can grow a ham (i.e. a pig’s butt, but not the rest of the pig) will vegetarians and vegans still object to eating meat?

  1. Leona Lauster says:

It will still be full of fat and not a healty thing to eat.

  2. brad says:

Ok – so what if they grow a chicken breast, or some other meat that’s more healthy (but probably less tasty) than ham?

  3. Brad Marshall says:

I can’t speak for vegetarians or vegans – but I’M not eatin’ that crap!

  4. Who cares. It’s something that can be done but I dont care if they do it, or not. Bring us to Mars instead of this…

3 years ago I heard rumours of a plant that produced “bags” of meat, These were essentially headless chickens grown on metal poles and pumped with nutrients. I pressume it to be a sign of the warped future we are evolving toward. However at the same time, if it tasted allright I think I’d eat it.

Most folk today would never admitt to eatting such a “monstrosity” however conditioning will allow us all to evolve such tastes and one day we will be praising the “meat” trees! Afterall it’s obvious that true holyness comes from watching ones parents.” Look ma, daddys in the lab pulling the pink meat section apart, is it all grown up!”

Finaly we will not be grossed out at the thought of eating a slimy frog’s leg or a freakin snail, This baby’s come from the sterile confines of a lab, oh and its the size of a turkeys leg!

Study’s suggest that insects will play a major role in the cuisine of the future. Often Ive wondered how insects of the ocean can be such a delicacy whereas insects of the land are enough to make us dry reach.

Close your eyes, shut your ears, uncondition yourself and you too will soon be able to, “Eat and be Merry!”

  6. Henry Goldstein says:

Good Question. I don’t think so. I mean, its still meat, right?

  7. ian says:

If eating meat off a tree means less methane from cows etc. i am all for that.In the mean time I will eat nuts nuts and more nuts.
